About the Artist

PAMELA NIGRO

Pamela Nigro - Biography

"Art, in all its many expressions, echoes the collective unconscious of humanity. Mass consciousness is influenced by the action or inaction of the whole. As we change individually, the planet is changed collectively. Art changes us at our core and if we allow it, transports us to another time, dimension, or reality."

Hailing from San Diego, California and a large Italian family, Pamela has pursued the road less traveled.  Following her instincts, she embodies and nurtures the creative energy by allowing it to express through her uncensored and free. She gives voice to the power and presence that animates all of Life through the exploration of ancient and modern cultural ideas.

At heart, Pamela Nigro is a risk taker, adventurer, and explorer. Not only has she walked on the edge of jungles in the Philippine Islands and chanted in Franciscan Monasteries, she's also appeared on Broadway stages in the asphalt jungle of New York City.

Her art reflects a  fascination with not only human behavior but the human condition, cultural values, symbols, language, spiritual beliefs and principles. One of her main priorities is to find where there is "agreement" within a culture so the focus in her artistic expression is on our similarities, what unites us and understanding cultural differences. Bold, colorful palettes and a daring, passionate authenticity as well as a distinctively unique perspective make her art captivating and widely exhibited in Local, National and International exhibitions.  Pamela's work is held in private collections throughout the U.S. and she has a strong presence Internationally.

Pamela believes that artists are the record keepers and storytellers of Humankind, with an opportunity to curate their work depending on the current social climate and direction.

She is committed to using her art to heal, stimulate discussion, open new avenues of thought, give the viewer a profoundly moving experience... and ultimately to transport them out of their current reality.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My abstract paintings investigate the continuity between ancient cultural symbolism and contemporary consciousness. Drawing from the visual and linguistic systems developed across civilizations—glyphs, script fragments, archetypal forms—I reinterpret these elements within a contemporary abstract language, creating work that exists outside of a fixed time or place.

Central to my practice is the search for commonality across cultures. By distilling and recontextualizing shared symbols and motifs, I explore the underlying connections that unify human experience beyond geographic and historical boundaries.

Working primarily in large-scale acrylic, I build layered surfaces and shapes that evoke processes of accumulation, excavation, and revelation. Through translucent washes, embedded markings, and gestural interventions, each painting evolves as both construction and uncovering. Forms emerge, recede, and reappear—suggesting a visual archaeology where meaning is continuously in flux.

My work is developed in series, allowing each body of work to function as a cohesive exploration of a singular idea. Within these series, individual paintings act as variations on a theme, while collectively forming a larger, immersive environment.

Though non-representational, the work is grounded in a sense of recognition. Familiar yet undefined, the imagery invites viewers to engage intuitively, drawing personal connections while reflecting on shared origins and collective memory.

Exhibited and recognized internationally, my practice has evolved as an ongoing commitment to abstraction as both a cultural and contemplative discipline. Rather than responding to trends, I continue to refine a visual language that bridges ancient and contemporary perspectives.

At this stage in my work, I am increasingly focused on creating immersive, large-scale paintings that foster stillness, reflection, and connection. These works function as spaces for contemplation—where layered histories, symbolic forms, and present awareness converge—offering a quiet but persistent reminder of our underlying interconnectedness.
